Community-Based Services & Community Development

HopePHL’s community service area in West Philadelphia encompasses the Saunders Park, West Powelton, Belmont, Mantua, Mill Creek, and Powelton Village neighborhoods. It is bounded by 50th Street to the west, Market Street to the south, 31th Street to the east, and Girard Avenue to the north. HopePHL is a key implementation partner in the federally-designated West Philadelphia Promise Zone.

HopePHL's community-based services and community development work respond to a resident driven neighborhood plan. Systemic issues are best addressed when solutions are driven locally by engaged community members and residents, especially those who have been marginalized.

Lancaster Avenue Commercial Corridor
Working with property owners on Lancaster Avenue to attract businesses to their vacant commercial spaces,  promoting the Lancaster Avenue commerical corridor neighborhood as an ideal place to shop, connect, live and work, and assisting small businesses already located on the corridor.

Neighborhood Services
Neighborhood Advisory Sub-Committee
Addressing neighborhood problems through forums, training, cleanups, and connections to resources, and other activities.

Real Estate Development
Building and managing affordable housing and commercial properties since 1992, with a community development corporation designation.

Rental Assistance
This homelessness prevention and diversion program provides financial support and negotiation assistance to people facing eviction by their landlord.

Food Relief
Distributing groceries to individuals in the communities who are facing financial difficulties and personal emergencies.

Arts & Culture
Partnering with local arts and culture institutions, HopePHL provides offers creative placemaking to West Philadelphia residents. These spaces offer engagement with multidisciplinary artistic projects that offer inspiration and promote hope and healing. We also produce a free jazz festival every year that draws thousands of people.
