HopePHL is a place for respite and renewal for individuals and families in need. Our impact includes:
• Connecting 650 families experiencing homelessness with early childcare education, • Reengaging 700 students in the classroom, • And providing resources to help 225 families keep their homes. But this isn’t just data. These are life-changing outcomes for real people, like Asha, Corey, Max, and Cherise (names changed for privacy). Asha, a mother of three young children, was struggling after being laid off from her job. With months of rent overdue and her electricity shut off, she was on the brink of eviction when she turned to HopePHL for help. Our team provided immediate financial support, which restored their power and helped Asha’s family stay in their home. Her children also received essential items such as toys, books, diapers, and wipes. Asha expressed gratitude to our donors for helping her family during this difficult time: “I cannot thank you enough for this help. I really appreciate everything. Thank you.” Corey, expecting her second child, was devastated to learn that her pregnancy was high risk, forcing her to leave work prematurely and lose her job entirely. Despite her partner Max working two jobs, the young couple accumulated nearly $11,000 in overdue rent and fees. Corey and Max sought a lifeline at HopePHL and our team was able to intervene with rental assistance that prevented eviction for the family. They were able to stay in their home and remain near their family support network and their oldest child’s school. “This was truly a big help. It gives us a chance to start fresh.” Cherise, a single mother of five, was desperate to move after discovering toxic mold in her home. She faced the urgent need to protect her family, but finding affordable housing for a large family in Philadelphia on a single income is a daunting challenge. Cherise turned to HopePHL's Thrive team for help. Thrive works in public schools to help families and youth facing homelessness. The team provided partial payment for a security deposit, easing Cherise's burden, and provided her children with extra support. Now Cherise’s family has their own safe and comfortable home in the same neighborhood, and she is grateful her children were able to remain in the same schools. |
