Everyday Learning
|
Everyday Learning Play Spaces is a collaboration between HopePHL™, Playful Learning Landscapes Action Network, and My Baby’s First Teacher ®, created to encourage playful learning in the spaces that children experiencing homelessness use every day. Have you played today?Research shows that learning through play uniquely supports children’s cognitive and social development, better preparing them to reach educational goals and interact with the world around them.
Play is also beneficial for adults, providing social connections and keeping their minds sharp. When children and caregivers play together, they develop lasting bonds that create positive memories and build children’s resilience to stress and trauma. Everyday Learning Play Spaces expands on HopePHL’s work with shelters across Philadelphia through Building Early Links for Learning (BELL), and responds to requests from shelters and their families for improvements to the buildings where families stay. We will be creating playful learning opportunities by enhancing the shelter spaces where families experiencing homelessness spend time each day. The team will be working directly with shelter families and staff to ensure that the playful learning environments we create meet the needs of their community.
